AI with Hardware

Artificial Intelligence Learning Kit: Hands-on Guide to Fine-Tuning Neural Network Models in Computer Vision

AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of our lives, from tools like ChatGPT to autonomous vehicles. Yet, for many, it remains an abstract concept. This learning kit bridges that gap by offering hands-on projects that connect AI with hardware, making AI accessible to learners of all levels.

Projects in this Kit

Cover

Housing Price Prediction

Introduces linear regression, one of machine learning's most fundamental yet powerful algorithms, through the project of housing market prediction.

Cover

Cats & Dog Recognition

Transit from traditional machine learning to the powerful domain of deep learning, with a specific focus on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs).

Cover

Finger Detection

Advance by developing a real-time application using a pre-trained CNN recognition model and how can they work with microcontrollers.

Cover

LCD Screen

Enables the system to interface with external devices through serial communication, making it suitable for screen control applications.

Cover

Robotic Hand

Further adjust serial communication to enable it to transmit more data in addition to character and binary representation, along with servo motors to control a robotic hand

Cover

Facial Recognition

Call upon a facial recognition model to capture and store the characteristics of a specific person, and design a control system that allows the hardware to respond appropriately under different conditions.

Timeline

1

Research & Planning

Jun 2024

We began by researching urban gardening challenges and existing solutions. We conducted surveys with potential users to understand their needs and pain points.

2

Prototyping

Jul 2024

We developed initial prototypes of both the hardware sensors and the mobile application interface, testing them with a small group of users.

3

Development

Sep 2024

Based on feedback, we refined our designs and implemented the full system, including sensor calibration and data analysis algorithms.

4

Testing & Iteration

Oct 2024

After we are confident about all the projects, we started to test all the circuits, make sure they are solid, and working on the tutorial book.

5

Crowdfunding

Mar 2025

198 backers pledged CA$ 57,048 to help bring this project to life.
