Allan Chow
Machine Automation Engineer, Former Mechatronic Systems Engineering student at SFU.
About
Allan Chow is a problem-solver at heart with a strong interest in embedded systems and software development. During his co-op term with EIM Technology, Allan primarily focused on the software and firmware side of the Traffic Light Project. Using MicroPython, he worked extensively on programming microcontrollers to manage the system’s behavior, ensuring reliable operation and logical flow.
Allan played a key role in many aspects of the project, contributing both code and insight to streamline the development process. His ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and think critically was instrumental in driving the project forward.
Beyond programming, Allan enjoys working with SolidWorks to create hardware modules and mechanical designs. He has a natural curiosity and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges, consistently seeking ways to improve and refine his solutions.

Experiences with Us

Software Testing and Implementation
Period: May 2023 - Dec 2023 [Co-op] [On-site]
During his co-op at EIM Technology, Allan Chow focused on embedded systems and firmware development. He led MicroPython programming for the Traffic Light Project and contributed to modular firmware design for the Elevator Project Prototype, showcasing strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of microcontroller-based systems.
Participated Projects
Project: Traffic Light Module
Period: May 2023 - Dec 2023
Members: Daniel Law, Allan Chow
In the Traffic Light Project, Allan was the primary contributor to the software and firmware development. He used MicroPython to program the STEPico microcontroller, implementing precise timing logic, state transitions, and control over LED outputs to simulate real-world traffic signal behavior. His work ensured that the system operated reliably under various conditions, and he played a key role in debugging and refining the codebase.

Project: Elevator Project Prototype
Period: May 2023 - Dec 2023
Members: Daniel Law, Allan Chow
Allan also played an important role in the Elevator Project Prototype, where he continued applying his structured programming approach. He worked closely on designing firmware that allowed for precise stepper motor control and positional accuracy.
